I was born in London but moved to Edinburgh when I was 6 years old. Although I have lived, over the years, in various other cities including Glasgow, Norwich and London, I am now back settled in Edinburgh.
Qualifications
I have an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Psychology, a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a doctoral-level Diploma in Counselling Psychology awarded by the British Psychological Society. I also have an Advanced Certificate in Cognitive-Behavioural Psychotherapy, a Certificate in Coaching, a Certificate in Personal and Career Development and have undertaken training in Group Analytic Therapy. I am an accredited mediator.
I am accredited as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and am a Chartered Counselling and Health Psychologist (BPS). I am a Full Member of the Association for Coaching and a Founder Member of the British Psychological Society Special Group in Coaching Psychology. I abide by the codes of ethics set down by these organisations.
Experience
I have worked with a variety of clients in settings including the NHS, industry, primary care, education and private practice. I am committed to anti-discriminatory practice and welcome clients from all backgrounds, cultures and sexualities. I am presently a General Member of the Mental Health Tribunal (Scotland), a Lay Member of the Employment Tribunal Service, and a Member of the Scottish Consortium for Research in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am also a published author in the area of Psychology, and have written a variety of articles for a range of publications, including The Independent and Therapy Today. My most recent book was published by Sage in June 2007.
